Wybron Works a Little Magic on Broadway

Wicked Logo

The Broadway musical "Wicked", based on Winnie Holzman's book, takes a comical look at the classic film "The Wizard of Oz." Musician and composer Stephen Swartz takes audiences on a magical journey into the college years of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. Yes, there was life before Dorothy and Toto!

The production hit Broadway in 2003 and became an instant success. The Wall Street Journal proclaimed: "Hooray! Broadway's got a big new musical ... it's more than good enough to run for a decade or two! Go!" This exciting new musical is casting its spell at the Gershwin Theatre with superb acting, inviting set design, and magical stage lighting.

Divine Color for a "Wicked" Performance

Lighting Designer Ken Posner used intense color and creative lighting control to transform the stage with his usual Broadway flair. Poser chose more than 200 Coloram IIs – well-known for their reliability – for prominent positions in the musical's lighting rig.

Provided by Fourth Phase New Jersey (Now PRG), the Coloram IIs offer a creative solution to stirring up a little lighting magic. The vibrant colors produced by the Coloram IIs shine an angelic glow on Glinda the Good Witch as well as enhance the evil green hue on the Wicked Witch of the West.

How did they hold up? "The equipment has worked almost flawlessly," said Vari-Lite Head Electrician Brenden Quigley.
